The University of Michigan football program is one of the most successful and storied in the country.  The Michigan Wolverines played and won their first game in 1879 in Chicago, Illinois against Racine.  This would be the first of a current record 849 wins for the Michigan Wolverines who also possess the highest all time winning percentage in NCAA football (74.5%).

Michigan won its first National Championship in 1901 and has gone on to win 10 more championships, the most recent coming in the 1997 season.  Michigan has been the school of three Heisman Trophy winners (Tommy Harmon, Desmond Howard, and Charles Woodson), an award given annually to the best college football player in the country.  Michigan has a rivalry with the Ohio State Buckeyes, with Michigan winning the first game in 1987 by the score 34-0.  This rivalry was rated as the best rivalry in all of sports by fans in an ESPN poll.

Michigan is the university of 3 time Super Bowl Champion Tom Brady, who was a quarterback at Michigan from 1995 to 1999. The most famous coach in the history of Michigan football is Bo Schembechler, who coached from 1969 to 1989. During his 20 years at the helm, Schembechler led Michigan to 194 wins and 13 Big Ten Championships. Michigan Stadium, the home of the Wolverines, is the largest football stadium in the country with a capacity of over 110,000 and growing, with the new construction going on will bring in more to the BIG HOUSE.
