The University of Michigan’s football program has the highest winning percentage in NCAA football, numerous national championships and one of, if not the, biggest alumni bases in America. Every game has an attendance of well over 100,000, and it maintains the longest streak of 100,000 in America. So why is the university suddenly acting as if we’re some Division-AA school trying to make a name for itself?
How, you ask? The University of Michigan had a PEP RALLY for FOOTBALL in FEBRUARY! What? Why? We needed to be rallied around our football team, THE Michigan Wolverines? Now, I have no issues with pep rallies, but they are things to be used during the season before big games. Ohio State coming up? Pep rally. Michigan State? Pep rally. Bowling Green? Nope, shouldn’t need it. Pep rally in February? I expect to hear that from Toledo or Eastern, not Michigan. Heck, I don’t even expect that from Michigan State!
This is one of the things that Rich Rodriguez has done that does annoy me. He pulled together an event that shouldn’t be needed to try and make a fan base that already supports the team be ‘All in for Michigan.’ We already are, thanks. Nothing would make every Wolverine fan anywhere happier than to see Rich Rod succeed and win a Big Ten title or, heaven forbid, a National Championship. If he wants to shut up his nay-sayers, then all the man has to do is win. It can’t be that hard, Dantonio seems to be able to do it fairly well, and he doesn’t have the recruiting power that the block M brings.
So, Mr. Rodriguez, I a simple request. Go win. That is all we the fans want. We don’t want February pep rallies, silly sound bites like ‘Get a life.’ We certainly don’t need more excuses or violations (and guess what, if you hadn’t come in and pulled that amazing abysmal opening season, I’d bet you wouldn’t be in trouble with the NCAA anyway. Winning has a way of shutting those whiny people up.)

This is the season that will have the haters really hating. UofM is going to have a very good season
I agree. But I don’t agree that we need to sacrifice who and what we are to do so. We are the leaders and the best, we don’t need petty annoyances like that pep rally. I like Coach Rodriguez, I really do, but he is, and still needs to learn what being a Wolverine means. Disliking what someone does doesn’t make you a hater, it makes you opinionated.
Are we ‘All in for Michigan’? Of course. I was for Coach Carr, I was when Rich Rod came in, I am now and I will be in the future.
Coach Rod didn’t call for the rally. The rally was organized for charity. There is never a bad time to do some charity work and never a bad time to have a good time as a Michigan fan.
I really don’t get the critics. Coach Rod is committed to the team, his players are committed to the team, we should all be doing the same. If it doesn’t work after giving him a fair then Brandon will have to decide, but until then lets support our team and coach. Stop the negativity.
What happened to Michigan is the way Carr left Michigan Football. He left in disgrace and brought disgrace on. I put blame on the atheletic directors. this is where the dirty little secrets and deals are made. Some directors are like crooked politicians. Sometimes the coaches should stay on and the directors fired. Thats what happened to Ohio State in the 90’s,the atheletic director though he owned the seat forever and no power could take him down.
There are good coaches right in the state of Michigan,if someone would open up their eyes they can be found. Public Relations is a big word. Without having this virtue you have nothing to convey and no one to hear it. There is more to getting wins then having the biggest team or greatest atheletes. You got to win them over in heart & soul. If Rod was a Blue Blood Michigander he might know the difference of Michigan Football then some other states program. We’ll see if he can pull Michigan Football out of the doldrums. I don’t think so. I wish they could be a 2or3 loss season and make a bowl game. Michigan is missed the the bowls. The school always had drawing power all the way out to Calif where I once lived. They had Michigan Jerseys hanging on the racks at stores. That says something. Bring back the Wolverines football!
QVDorM Excellent article, I will take note. Many thanks for the story!
