The Maize and Blue Play Host to Purdue

by matt on November 7, 2009

This Saturday the Michigan Wolverines will play host to the Purdue Boilermakers. Michigan leads the all-time series 41-13. Its been awhile since Purdue has walked out of the Big House victoriously, 43 years to be exact. 16 consecutive trips to Ann Arbor have ended in defeat. On what looks to be a nice November day, with the forecast calling for sunny skies, and temperatures in the high fifties, Michigan will look to make it 17. If they accomplish that, they’ll be punching their ticket to a bowl game this year. Purdue comes in with a less than stellar record, (3-6). One of those wins just happens to be over Ohio State, with another coming over Illinois. The Boilermakers looked to be rolling before getting shutout by Wisconsin last week. Michigan comes into this game losing 4 of its last 5. The Wolverines would love a win as they head to Madison to play the Badgers before hosting Ohio State in its regular season finale.

Michigan comes in averaging 207 ypg on the ground, tops in the Big Ten. Purdue gives up 168 ypg to opposing runners. Purdue runners Ralph Bolden and Jaycen Taylor hope to have a big day on the ground against a Wolverine defense that is giving up 160 ypg. Bolden however hasn’t rushed for more than 100 yards since Sept. 12. The Wolverine backfield is a little banged up but Coach Rodriguez expects to have all the horses in the stable at his disposal. Martavious Odoms is listed as out with Greg Banks listed as questionable. Tate Forcier and the Michigan receivers hope to get back to the form they portrayed earlier this season.

The game will be played at noon and broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
